Special Conditions

NOTE: Important things to know when renting in May, late September and October or anytime that the temperature might be cool: 1) The Cottage has no heat or insulation and that it is open stud construction. 2) There are 2 electric space heaters. They will NOT heat the entire cottage. One will heat the master bedroom nicely if the doors are closed. 3) There is a fireplace in the living room, but it only warms area immediately adjacent 4) On a sunny day, the cottage warms up well, but heat dissipates once the sun goes down. 5) There are plenty of blankets.

Located on a wooded site with a sweeping southwest view across Blue Hill Bay, nature abounds on both land and sea and direct water access. The deck and ledge below, provide ideal vantage points to watch the resident loons fishing, seals frolicking, mink scurrying along the water’s edge, and eagles and osprey soaring. Originally built by the Rich brothers as their fishing shack, the Lyford family added to the original structure over their 90 year ownership. The cottage retains its rustic character with white-washed exposed structure throughout, living room with fireplace and cathedral ceiling, sleeping loft, and windows looking out to the ocean from every room. Whether you spend your days on the deck reading a book and gazing out on the water, or come home to watch the sunset after a day of island exploring, you can’t help but feel restored.

FIRST LEVEL: Kitchen, dining room, living room with fireplace (wood not provided, but there are lots of roadside stands in the area). Bedroom with a queen bed and full bath. Deck off the dining room overlooking the bay. SECOND LEVEL: Loft with 3 sleeping areas: double bed, 2 twins, 1 twin.
